How to use TargetAce

Getting started

Your profile, your bow and your venue

Your profile

When you first open TargetAce you give your name, your bow type, your country and, if you like, your category and age group. You can change any of these later in Profile, under Archer.

Category and age group matter: TargetAce needs both to work out your Archery GB classification.

In the app: Open Profile

Your bow

Setup creates a bow called My Bow of the type you chose and makes it your selected bow. New rounds use the selected bow, so personal bests, classifications and badges are kept per bow style.

In Equipment you can add more bows (name, maker, model, type, draw weight, brace height, tiller and notes), choose which one is selected, and record sight marks. Removing a bow keeps its history, and you can restore it from Removed bows.

In the app: Open Equipment

Your venue

Set the venue you are shooting at from the Today card on Home (Set venue or Change), or from Profile: Equipment, then Locations. Place the marker on the map, give the venue a name and save it.

Weather is recorded for the venue when a session starts. Without a venue a session has no weather, so it cannot count towards Scores by weather in Analytics or towards weather badges.

In the app: Manage venues

Finding your way around

The tabs along the bottom are Home, Shoot, Analytics, Badges and Profile. With the Glasgow Archers theme the last tab is the club news, and Profile moves to the menu.

The menu button at the top right opens Profile and settings, Campaigns, Equipment and this guide, and also Clubs and competitions and PvP once you have connected to online play.

Home

Home shows any round in progress (Continue round takes you straight back into the scorer), Start a new round, the Today card with your venue, the weather and your arrows, and your last round with its handicap and classification.

The tiles underneath open Campaigns, PvP, Clubs and your bow. When you are connected, club announcements and your next event appear at the top.

Shooting and scoring

Choosing a round, the keypad and target face, editing ends

Choosing a round

On the Shoot tab, search All rounds by name, distance or bow (for example Portsmouth, 70m or compound) and filter by Indoor or Outdoor. Rounds you have shot recently are listed first.

Round cards show the sight marks recorded on your selected bow for that round's distances.

Practice holds Endless practice (as many ends as you like) and Blank Boss (form work with no scoring). Choose Custom above the round list to create your own round, including the Piramide and Piramide Plus training formats, and save it for next time.

In the app: Go to Shoot

Scoring with the keypad

The scorer fills the screen while you shoot. Tap the key for where each arrow landed; M is a miss. Undo removes the last arrow. The eye icon hides scores if you would rather not see them, and the screen stays awake while you score.

The keys are coloured like the target rings. Imperial and Worcester faces have their own keys.

The X key

X is for compound archers. On 10-zone faces a compound archer gets an X key for the inner ten: it scores 10 and is counted as an X. Recurve, barebow and traditional archers score the inner ring as a plain 10, so they do not see an X key.

TargetAce goes by the bow recorded on the round, or your selected bow if the round has none.

Scoring on the target face

Switch from Keypad to Target at the bottom of the scorer, then tap where each arrow hit. Pinch to zoom, and hold and drag to move the face.

With Confirm each arrow on (the default) you check each score before it counts; turn it off to score on the tap. Arrows plotted on the face give you group analysis in Round details.

Correcting an end

After each end a banner confirms it is saved, with an Edit button. Your last two ends are shown under the scorer; tap one to correct it, or open All ends and tap the pencil next to any end.

In the edit sheet, tap an arrow, then its correct score, and save. You can also correct ends later from Round details. Ends cannot be edited in competition rounds.

Leaving, resuming and finishing

Going back asks what you want to do: Keep scoring, Save and leave, or Discard round. Every end you finish is saved, so a round you leave can be picked up from Continue round on Home or from Continue on the Shoot tab (Resume or Discard).

Tap Next end after each end and Complete round after the last. Endless practice finishes with End session.

Target captain and shooting timer

Target captain, on the Shoot tab, scores several archers on one phone and can make a scoresheet for each of them. Shooting timer times your ends.

Round details

Handicap, classification, group analysis, scoresheets

AGB handicap and classification

Round details shows the Archery GB handicap for your score and, for a full official round in the standard format, the classification it earns (Archery GB 2026 tables).

The line under the classification says what it is based on, such as outdoor, Open, Adult, Recurve. Tap Change to update your category or age group in Profile. Without them, no classification is shown.

Personal bests

Once you have shot a round at least twice with the same bow style, the score is marked Personal best or Equals your PB, or shows how far below your best it was.

End by end and group analysis

End by end lists every end with its arrows, end total and running total. Tap an end to correct it.

For rounds scored on the target face, Group analysis plots every arrow with a red cross at their average position, and gives your grouping score, group size and any bias from the centre. Show each end on the target plots each end on its own.

Scoresheet PDF

Scoresheet PDF makes an Archery GB and World Archery style scoresheet. Add the scorer's name and both signatures if it is for your records officer, then tap Create PDF and share it.

Analytics

Trends, handicap, weather and personal bests

The four views

Overview has your headline numbers, handicap and classification progress (indoor and outdoor, per bow style, for the season) and Scores by weather. Progress shows score, grouping and handicap trends. History lists your sessions and rounds; tap one for the detail. Bests lists your personal bests per round and bow style.

Choose 30 days, 3 months, 12 months or All time at the top. Bests always covers all time.

In the app: Go to Analytics

Scores by weather

Compares your scores in different conditions. It only includes sessions with recorded weather, which needs a venue.

Exporting scores

Export scores in Overview makes a CSV file of every arrow or of session summaries, for all time or a period you choose.

Sight marks

Recording marks and predicting new ones

Recording sight marks

In Equipment each bow has its own sight marks: the distance in metres or yards, the mark and any notes. Your selected bow's marks appear on the round cards on the Shoot tab.

In the app: Open Equipment

Predicting a sight mark

Once a bow has at least two numeric marks in metres, or two in yards, Predict a sight mark appears under them. Enter a distance to get a mark.

Between two recorded distances the mark is estimated from the marks either side, which is usually close. Beyond your nearest or furthest mark it is extended from the closest two, which gets less reliable the further out you go. Each prediction says how confident it is.

A predicted mark is a starting point. Check it on the range and record the real mark.

Arrow tracking and goals

Arrows shot, daily and weekly goals

Arrow tracking

Tap the arrows line on the Today card on Home to open Arrow tracking. It counts the arrows you shoot, from today to all time, including Endless practice and Blank Boss.

Set a daily and a weekly goal to keep your volume up. Home shows how you are doing against your weekly goal.

In the app: Open Arrow tracking

Badges

How badges are earned

Earning badges

Badges are judged on what you actually shot. The Badges tab groups them into Awards, Indoor, Outdoor, Weather and Fun, plus Campaigns and PvP once you play them. Filter by bow to see one bow style.

Each group shows the badges you are closest to earning first. Rarity runs from Common through Uncommon, Rare, Epic and Legendary to Mythic.

Weather badges need recorded weather, so set your venue before you shoot.

In the app: Go to Badges

Campaigns

Single-player matches against the app's archers

Classic: The Archer's Path

100 opponents across five worlds of 20: the Village Green, the County Fair, the National Circuit, the World Tour and the Legends Arena. Beat a world's boss to open the next world.

Matches are set play: 3 arrows a set by default, up to five sets, 2 points for a set won and 1 each for a drawn set, first to 6. A tie at 5-5 goes to a one-arrow shoot-off. You can turn on a bow handicap.

A win earns 1 star, a win by 2 or more set points 2 stars, and winning every set 3 stars. Your match history is in the header.

Each campaign has a difficulty, asked the first time you open it and changed from the Difficulty chip on its maps: Beginner (opponents from about 3 an end, 3 arrows, to the low 20s), Club (for archers scoring about 20 an end), Expert (the mid-20s and up) or Adaptive (opponents set from your own handicap). Changing it keeps your stars and progress; a stage shows the hardest difficulty you have won it on.

After two losses to the same opponent they ease off a little each time, on every difficulty; a win while they are eased earns at most 2 stars.

Your avatar and battles

A little archer of your own, feathers, kit and battles

Your avatar

Make a little archer of your own in Profile: body, skin, hair and face. It carries your kind of bow and shows beside your name on club screens. Switch “Show avatars” off in Profile to hide every avatar.

On the website your avatar shows on your own archer page. It shows beside your name on public lists, such as the rankings, only if you have made your archer page public.

Feathers and kit

Feathers are earned by shooting and playing: finishing a round, a personal best, a better handicap, club competitions and events, badges, campaign wins and avatar battles. They can’t be bought.

Spend them in the kit shop on bows, quivers, hats, tops and companions. Your level comes from every feather you have ever earned, so spending never lowers it.

Ends you score with the camera pay feathers too, once the round is finished. In the kit shop three extra items change every Monday, and there is a set for the indoor season and another for the outdoor season.

In the app: Open the kit shop

Kit you can’t buy

Some kit is only earned. Beat a campaign boss, with real arrows or in an avatar battle, and their own piece is yours. A few badges give kit, and every event you shoot in gives you its pin.

If your club has picked its colours, the club’s top is with the tops in your kit. An organiser picks the two colours under “Club top” in the club’s settings. The kit shop shows what there is still to win.

In the app: Open the kit shop

Avatar battles

A quick game of choices against the campaign’s archers: each end you and the other archer pick a shot in secret, three arrows fly, and the better end takes 2 set points. First to 6 wins.

Bold beats Steady, Pressure beats Bold, and Steady beats Pressure. Composure is a plain end that earns Focus.

Each battle is shot in one condition, such as crosswind or fog, which changes which shots are wise. Kit, and good form on your real rounds, make your avatar a little sharper.

Every campaign you can play has a battle path of its own. Your avatar comes to full draw before each arrow, and battles have sounds: the speaker button at the top of a battle turns them off.

In the app: Open avatar battles

Signature shots

Focus pays for a signature shot after the arrows have landed: shoot your worst arrow again, count it as a 10, take a tied end, and more. There are twelve, and each new level unlocks one, up to level 12.

Battles with other archers

Challenge a clubmate, or give a friend a code. Turns are taken when each of you has a moment; a battle left for three days is forfeited by whoever is holding it up.

There is no chat: six fixed reactions such as “Good shot” are all you can send. Battle notifications can be switched off, and quiet hours set, in Profile.

In the app: Battle an archer

Any archer, and avatar ladders

To battle archers outside your clubs, switch on “Open to battles from any archer” on the battles screen. Archers who have switched it on too can then see your name and avatar and invite you, and you can invite them. It is off until you turn it on, and it is for adult archers.

In an open battle kit doesn’t count, so only your choices and your form matter.

A club with Club Plus can run an avatar ladder: a club ladder whose challenges are played as avatar battles instead of matches. Kit doesn’t count there either.

A Club Plus club can also run a knockout or a league of avatar battles, and challenge another club to a club battle: each club fields three, five or seven archers, each pair plays a battle, and the club with more wins takes it.

In the app: Battle an archer

Online play on TargetAce Live

Clubs, leaderboards, ladders, events and PvP

Connecting

Online play is off until you choose to connect, from the PvP or Clubs tile on Home or the TargetAce Live switch in Profile, under Online play. Connecting shares your name, your bow style, and the scores and matches you play online.

Disconnecting deletes your TargetAce Live account.

In the app: Open Profile

Clubs

Open Clubs and competitions from the menu. Join a club with its invite code, find one by name or town, or start your own. You can also enter an event with its code.

A club page has announcements, events, leaderboards, ladders, knockouts and leagues, teams, shared practice rounds and members. To share a round with your club, use Share with your club in Round details.

Whoever starts a club owns it. Organisers can make other members organisers, but only the owner can delete the club or hand it over to another member, and the other organisers can't remove the owner. To leave or step down, the owner hands the club over first: tap a member, then Hand the club over.

Leaderboards, ladders, knockouts and leagues

For a Target Score leaderboard you shoot the set round and your best score is ranked against the other members.

On a ladder you challenge archers above you and take their place if you win. Knockouts and round-robin leagues are played as live matches. Club organisers create all of these from the club page.

Teams and events

Clubs can set up teams from their members. Events are club shoots you enter, change or withdraw from, with a waiting list when they are full. The organiser opens and closes entries, starts the shooting and finishes the event.

PvP

Challenge anyone who shares a club with you. Turn on Available for challenges to receive challenges.

Matches are best of five sets: 2 points for a set won, 1 each for a drawn set, first to 6. If it is 5-5 after five sets, the challenge decides what happens: extra sets, a shoot-off or a draw. A bow handicap can be turned on.

Reporting and blocking

You can report or block an archer from clubs, teams, announcements, shared rounds and member lists, and from More options in PvP. Blocked archers are listed in Clubs, where you can unblock them.

Your data

Export, backup and restore

Export, back up and restore

Your scores are kept on your phone. In Profile, under Your data: Export all scores (CSV) makes a CSV file of every arrow; Back up to a file saves everything so you can keep it somewhere safe or move to a new phone; Restore from a backup replaces everything on this phone with the backup.

Clear all data deletes everything once you confirm.

Make a backup before changing phones or clearing your data.

In the app: Open Profile

Crash reports

If the app hits a problem it can send a crash report so it can be fixed. You can turn off Send crash reports in Profile, under Online play.

Clubs on the web

The organiser console, Club Plus, events and your club website

The organiser console

Club organisers can run their club from a computer at targetace.app/console: members and join requests, news, competitions, ladders, knockouts and leagues, events with entries and target lists, and the club page.

Sign in with a code from the app: Profile, then Sign in on the web. There is no password.

Club Plus

Club Plus is the paid plan for clubs, bought on the web by an organiser. It removes the size limits, hides the Scores by TargetAce line on your website, adds results exports and printed scoresheets, and lowers the booking fee on paid entries.

Free clubs can run knockouts and leagues of up to 16 archers and ladders of up to 24, two of each at a time. Target Score leaderboards and results on your own website are free for every club.

Club awards

Club awards are your club’s own badges, such as the 252 or Portsmouth badges, for Club Plus clubs. An organiser sets up a scheme in the organiser console, under Club awards: the round for each badge, the score to reach (one for everyone, or one for each bow style), and how many qualifying scores it needs.

TargetAce checks the scores members send in (leaderboards, events and rounds shared with the club) and lists who has earned what, who is nearly there, and which badges have been presented. A scheme can ask for each score to be witnessed by another member, or confirmed by an organiser.

Events and entry fees

Events take their entry fee online. Entries open once the club has set up entry fees and the event has a fee. The archer pays a booking fee on top (card costs plus £1 a place, or 75p on Club Plus), or the club can pay it.

Clubs in the euro area take event entry fees in euros: the booking fee is the card costs plus €1.20 a place, or €0.90 on Club Plus. It arrives in the club’s Stripe account with the entry fee, and the club passes TargetAce’s part on from the Organiser Console within 45 days. Paid courses, memberships and club payments are for UK clubs only for now.

For a free club night, use a Target Score leaderboard instead: nothing to enter and nothing to pay.

Events by shoot type

An event can sell its places by shoot type: a set of rounds shot in order, with a price of its own. A Portsmouth and a double Portsmouth can be two shoot types at one event. In the organiser console, open the event and choose Set up targets and shoot types.

Set the line of targets once: how many targets, how many archers on each, and whether they all shoot together or in waves. A shoot type shares the targets nobody has reserved, or has a number of targets of its own. A target belongs to one shoot type, and each shoot type has its own waiting list.

Archers pick their shoot type when they enter in the app. Version 1.5.3 of the app or later is needed for a shoot type of more than one round.

On the day of an event

From the start of the event’s day, archers check in in the app and see their target. Organisers see who has checked in on the event’s page in the console, and can check an archer in themselves.

Each target scores on one phone, a round at a time. Where a shoot type has more than one round, the event’s settings say whether targets move on by themselves or wait for an organiser to start each round.

Scores are confirmed by an organiser, or on the target: once everyone who shot a round has agreed its scores in the app. An organiser can always confirm or correct a scorecard. Results are shown live, or only once the event has finished.

Results on your club website

Clubs can show live leaderboards, events, ladders and news on their own website, free for every club. In the organiser console, open Club settings, then Club website, and copy a snippet.

WordPress sites can use the TargetAce Live Leaderboards plugin instead: shortcodes or the TargetAce results block.
